Defenders of "the faith" in each camp have carefully developed their arguments in such a way that they are unable to see any alternative positions. The plain sense statements of scripture are abandoned whenever necessary on both sides to win their arguments. The either-or mentality has blinded them to alternative views of the so-called proof texts that would reconcile their polarized positions.
There are those men and women who recognize the polarization that has taken place, and that they have been influenced by the schools they have attended, but remain teachable, because they seek the truth at any cost.
Some notable examples of such people, that I have encountered, are Robert Gundry, George Eldon Ladd, Scott Mckinney, Chris Vlachos and Grover Gunn. George Ladd is deceased, and Scott Mckinney is my pastor. I differ with all at some points, but value the fact that when I offer a proposed way of viewing a passage of Scripture, I know they will actually evaluate it.
I am seeking to gather the names of such teachable teachers and the works they have done to assist seekers in their journey for the truth as they run the gauntlet of theologcal education.
